Lake Tawa-kitty

So, this year has been full of all kinds of mis-haps, but every now and then, like Bob Ross used to say, you find that mistakes actually lead to happy accidents.  Being at Lake Tawakoni State Park was a happy accident since we had planned to stay at The Vineyards Campground the whole weekend of RandShe's wedding - but since I accidentally booked us for Wed - Sun when we wanted to be there from Thurs - Mon, I grabbed a last minute spot here at the state park, and honestly? It worked out just fine!

(In Tom Hank's Castaway voice:) I made FIRE!!

We packed up and left Grapevine right at noon, had a steak lunch at Saltgrass and slowly made our way over to East Texas, checking the score of the Steelers game along the way (Steelers: 28, Ravens: 24 - we're now 7-0!). We checked in at headquarters right at 2pm and leveled ourselves into the spot for the night.

We opened up a bottle of our club wine from Rodney Strong and had Chicken Salad Chick for dinner (if you have one near you y'all! RUN, don't walk, to go try them out! It's outstanding!)  Lake Tawakoni has a surprising semi-feral cat population, so we ended up with a visitor joining us for dinner.  She was kind enough to not eat and run, spending a few minutes enjoying the campfire before slinking off into the distance.  Not too long after, another two cats dropped by to see if we had leftovers.  (I think we made friends with the Alpha and she went back to "inform the others.")   Lake Tawa-kitty it is!

It was perfect evening of just spending time with RDB and enjoying a campfire.  I'm so grateful that the weather has started to shift in Texas and, as RDB put it, we're in prime camping season.  I'm also super grateful that we finally have a camper, that the mold issues are behind us, and that we're out adding new adventures to the long list of wonderful times we've had out in nature and camping amongst our state parks.

Monday morning we traveled into town for breakfast, which turned into lunch, and then a bit of geocaching.  We really enjoy walking around the small towns near the campgrounds and using the excuse of geocaching to have a reason to meander off the beaten path.  We found a few in the park when we got back as well - once again enjoying the trails and time in nature before we needed to pack up and head back home.

By the way, if you're not fond of arachnids, you might not want to head down this trail.  And if you really don't like spiders, you probably shouldn't read the story behind what happened in the park along this trail back in 2007. And if you really don't care for 8-legged insects, you probably shouldn't go geocaching along this trail, either.

But, the rest of the park is nice.

And they have cats.

Just saying.

We were at Lake Tawakoni State Park in the Spring Point Camping loop Site #65.  I thought when I booked that this was a full hook-ups site, but you've got to check the map carefully - though these loops _are_ full hook-ups, there are few specific site that are _not._  That's probably why I was able to grab one last minute, to be honest.  Either that or the spiders.  And cats.
