This day didn't go as planned at all. I had thought we might do a "drinking round the world" lite version (a beer in Germany, wine in France, sake in Japan and tea in China) but nope. I thought we might spend time in the museums that each country has - the little hidden gems that get you away from the crowds and out of the heat of the day, but nope. I thought we might leisurely walk thru the shops, seeking what seems to be an illusive pair of souvenir earrings but, alas, nope.
What we got instead was just as surprising and perfect as the purple hydrangeas at the entrance of the park that I completely missed on
our first day there.
The day started with an early morning knock on our camper door from Luis, one of the campground mangers; I had sent an email over to the campground GM, Bill, the night before, telling him about the flooding issue we had in our site (I wrote about that over
here), and Luis woke us up (early, unfortunately) to let us know they were working on the situation, and he wanted to know what our plans were for the day? Well, Epcot - especially for a lunch reservation, and then stay in the park for a while walking around (you know, and do all those things I listed up top).
A few texts and a phone call later, we had a new site to move into, but we were concerned about the upcoming rain (again) and our lunch plans at Le Cellier. Since Luis couldn't move the lunch reservation, and RDB and I really wanted another round of steaks with mushroom risotto and truffle butter (I was dreaming about that meal!) we made the decision to pack up the inside of the camper so it was ready to move, pull the slides in, and then head to the park for lunch and move the camper afterwards.
Oh, those ominous clouds. And oh, that truffle-butter risotto! We enjoyed our meal and then ducked right over to the
Canada Far and Wide in Circle Vision 360 which was pretty neat experience: 9 giant screens surrounding you in the theatre as you stand and take in all the history and beauty our northern neighbor has to offer.
It was a short show, but we probably should have checked the weather beforehand as it was sprinkling when we got out and the storm on radar looked rather unforgiving; we made a bee-line for the front of the park and jumped on a bus before it came pouring down on us. Again.
We got back to the park, packed up the outside stuff on the camper, and moved the 50 feet or so over to our new site. Reset the camper, hooked everything up, realized the camper was not leveling correctly, unhooked everything, reset the camper again, leveled, hooked everything up. All with rain dropping down on us. Oy.
Welcome to our new site, #544. Now that we've moved out from the flooded site (#539) AND moved in the rain, it should guarantee us a rain-free rest of the weekend, right?! RDB and I hung out in the camper for a bit (so he could nap, and I could dry out and warm back up) and we went back over to Epcot around 6 or so to get a few more rides in and use the "experience redemption" Lightening Lanes that Luis had granted us.
We started with
Soarin', which is quickly becoming a favorite. It's such a unique experience that's unlike any other show/attraction we've been on before (mind you, know, Avatar Flight of Passage is kinda the Soarin' 2.0 of Disney - also one of our favs!)
From there, since it's in the same building and we didn't get to ride it on day one, we walked over to
Living with the Land. As it was getting closer towards the end of the evening, and this isn't a top-priority ride for most people (it's a boat ride, and it's been around
for a while) we were able to pretty much just walk right on!
If you're a fan of gardening and how technology is changing the way we engage with what we grow, then I think you'd really like this ride. The first half is typical boat-ride dark rooms and animatronics, but the second half takes you thru actual gardens that Disney pulls food from for the restaurants!
From there we walked to the France section in the World Showcase for our
Remy's ride. We noticed in the app that it was temporarily down when we got to the park, but was back up and running but as we rode it, since we had already experienced it once, we cold definitely tell that the timing was off between the cars and the screens/rooms we were traveling into.
We continued our trek around the world, enjoying the nighttime lighting of several beautiful sections of the part. Japan really stood out in my mind as having such dramatic lighting and architecture.
Our goal was to walk all the way around the world showcase and finish back up at Mexico, to ride the
Gran Fiesta one more time. Since the fireworks show was about to begin, this was another walk on ride for RDB and me - in fact, there were boats in front of us and boats behind us that ran empty!
We may not have seen the 'official' Epcot end-of-night fireworks, but we did get to see some fireworks with our three amigos on the ride!
It was a great last day in Epcot, and as we walked out, we couldn't help but take just a few more pictures of Spaceship Earth. The icons of DisneyWorld, especially at night will forever hold a special place in my heart now that I've seen them in person and have such great memories of our days in the parks for my 40th birthday trip!
